ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. – A former South Carolina State University student has been charged with firing into a crowd of peers.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division accused Melvin Anthony Williams, 21, of attempted murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime on October 24.
Following the incident, South Carolina State Police sought an investigation by SLED.
On March 3, 2023, Williams allegedly fired into a gathering of students on campus, hitting one in the leg, according to arrest warrants.
The 1st Circuit Solicitor’s Office will pursue Williams’ case. He was booked into Orangeburg County Jail.
