Early Morning Crash in Phoenix Leaves One Dead, Another Driver Charged With Manslaughter and DUI

An early Saturday morning crash in Phoenix killed one guy and left another facing many accusations.

Officers responded about 6 a.m. to reports of an injury crash at 58th Drive and Encanto Boulevard. According to authorities, one driver fled the scene.

At the site, officers discovered that the driver of the second vehicle, 51-year-old Aquileo Najera, had died as a result of his injuries, according to police.

Officers apprehended the other driver after following leads to a neighboring home, according to authorities. He was identified as Jesus Enrique Renteria Arroyo, aged 19.

According to police, Renteria Arroyo was speeding south on 58th Drive when he ran a stop sign at Encanto, colliding with Najera’s eastbound vehicle.

Renteria Arroyo was charged with manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death or serious bodily injury, and several DUI counts in connection with the fatal crash, according to police.

Renteria Arroyo admitted to being inebriated while in detention, according to authorities.

“Additional details about the collision remain part of the ongoing investigation,” according to a Phoenix police statement.
