Deputies say a 5-year-old North Carolina kid died when his 6-year-old sibling accidentally shot him in the head. The victim’s great-grandfather is being charged with the crime.
Karter Rosenborg, 5, was discovered shot in the head late Tuesday night in a residence just north of Greenville. According to WITN, the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office reports that the youngster died after being transported to ECU Health Medical Center.
According to deputies, Karter’s 6-year-old sibling shot him accidentally. Rayfield Ruffin, 72, the boy’s great-grandfather, was charged on Friday with failing to properly store the firearm to safeguard minors. According to his arrest warrant, he resides in the residence where the incident took place.
According to Pitt County Schools, Karter was a kindergarten student at Northwest Elementary School, which had crisis response teams present last week.
The family created a GoFundMe campaign to aid with funeral expenses.
“Karter was a happy 5-year-old with a bright smile and loved by so many,” the website added.
Ruffin was released after he posted a $2,000 unsecured bond.
