An accident that occurred early on Sunday morning in Turlock resulted in the deaths of three adults and a child who was 16 years old, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A Jeep that was entering the intersection of Highway 165 and Greenway Avenue was involved in a collision with the driver of a 2008 Infiniti sedan at approximately 9:30 in the morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver of the Infiniti, who was 22 years old and from Modesto, was not wearing a seatbelt and passed away at the scene of the accident.
The driver of the jeep, a man from Turlock who was 54 years old, and the woman who was sitting in the front passenger seat, who was 45 years old, both passed away at the site of the accident. The girl, who was 16 years old and was riding in the Jeep, was sent to the hospital, but she did not survive her injuries.
There were two further passengers in the Jeep, and both of them were transported to the hospital with serious injuries and were transferred there. The California Highway Patrol identified them as a 19-year-old and a 14-year-old, both of whom were from Turlock.
As one of the people who perished in the collision, Jennifer Lourenco, a teacher at the Ceres Unified School District, was recognized as one of the deceased. A statement from the school district also stated that her family was involved in the accident.
At Sinclear Elementary School, she was a teacher who was considered to be moderate-severe, and the school system stated that she was Sinclear’s Teacher of the Year in 2023-24.
“She was a gifted and dedicated educator and a beloved colleague whose loss will be deeply felt throughout the school community,” the school district said in a statement. “Her passing will be deeply felt at the school.” “While we are still processing this unimaginable tragedy, our hearts go out to members of the Lourenco family and their loved ones.”
The California Highway Patrol reports that the driver of the Infiniti was traveling at a fast rate of speed on Highway 165 in the direction of the northern direction at the time of the collision. When the driver of the Jeep SUV arrived at the junction where the Infiniti was parked, he or she had been stopped at a stop sign. According to the California Highway Patrol, the Infiniti went into the left side of the Jeep.
Alcohol or narcotics may have played a role in the collision, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Everyone in the Jeep was wearing their seatbelts, according to the California Highway Patrol.
