24-year-old Woman Dies in Murfreesboro Multi-vehicle Crash; Investigation Underway

The Murfreesboro Police Department is looking for witnesses after a 24-year-old woman died in a three-car crash on Wednesday.

The MPD Fatal Accident Crash Team is asking for information concerning the fatal crash that occurred around 1 p.m. on outbound NW Broad Street near Interstate 840.

A woman driving a 2020 Kia Rio may have incorrectly changed lanes, causing a collision with a 2015 Kia Optima. According to MPD, both vehicles were going south on NW Broad Street when they collided, forcing the Rio to detour into the northbound lanes.

It was then hit by a 2013 Volkswagen Beetle. According to MPD, debris from the crash hit a Chrysler minivan traveling northbound.

One of the drivers, a 24-year-old woman, died at the scene of the incident. Her identity has not yet been revealed. No other injuries were reported.

“Investigators are currently looking into whether drugs and alcohol played a part in the deadly crash. Investigators discovered potential drugs and an open bottle of alcohol in one of the cars,” MPD stated.

Brandon Alexander, 19, the driver of the Optima, was detained on two unrelated outstanding warrants for theft and criminal simulation at the site of the incident. According to police, Alexander had a loaded AR-15 in his car.

The actual cause of the crash is still under investigation.
