SOMERVILLE, Ohio — According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, one person died and two were hospitalized with life-threatening injuries following a crash Thursday morning in Wayne Township.
Deputies said they were called to the 6700 block of West Elkton Road about 6:30 a.m. Thursday for a major injury crash.
According to arriving officials, two automobiles, a 2005 Pontiac and a 2013 Chevrolet Suburban, crashed head-on, killing one and sending two people to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Officials say the Pontiac, driven by a 16-year-old kid, went left of center and collided with the Suburban, driven by a 60-year-old man.
According to deputies, a 13-year-old girl in the Pontiac was transferred to Dayton Children’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries via Careflight.
According to the superintendent of Preble Shawnee Local Schools, the 16-year-old student who died was in the district’s 11th grade. The teen’s sister, the 13-year-old passenger, is an eighth-grade student in the district.
The driver of the Suburban was transported to Miami Valley Hospital by Careflight with life-threatening injuries.
