ROUND ROCK, Texas — The Memphis Redbirds flipped the script and defeated the Round Rock Express 7-3 Sunday afternoon at Dell Diamond.
Former Atlanta Rabb Drew Stubbs did not have a good outing against the Redbirds as he went 0-of-2 at the plate, including striking out once, and leaving one runner stranded. He did manage to sustain two walks and reach base in that manner.
Will Middlebrooks returned to third base for the Express, and he went 2-of-4 at the plate, including scoring a run, striking out once, and leaving one runner stranded.
Catcher Brett Hayes went 2-of-4 from the plate with a solo shot homer in the third inning that tied the game 1-1 for the Express.
First baseman Ronald Guzman also went 2-of-4 at the plate, logging his second consecutive multi-hite game. Guzman has now hit in three straight games and nine of his last 10 at .450 (18-40) to rise from a .292 batting average to .315.
Shortstop Jurickson Profar went 1-of-5 at the plate. His hit is now his third total in his first two games since returning to Round Rock.
Right-handed pitcher Eddie Gamboa took the loss for the Express as he went 7.0 innings, surrendered four runs (all earned) on seven hits, including two home runs. Gamboa managed to strike out four and walk two. Among his 93 pitches, 58 of them were strikes. Gamboa’s record now falls to 5-6 on the year and his ERA is now 6.49.
The Express will go against Memphis in a rubber match at 7:05 p.m. Central Time. Right-handed pitcher Tyler Wagner will take the mound for Round Rock with a 1-6 record and an 8.70 ERA.
