Rivercrest washes out Linden-Kildare Tigers 26-21

The Linden-Kildare Tigers are ahead in the turnover margin plus-9 after a 5-0 start with the defense forcing 14 takeaways and the offense giving up just five possessions.

LINDEN — The Rivercrest Rebels’ 275 rushing yards helped overrun the Linden-Kildare Tigers 26-21 Friday night at Jack Hetherington Stadium.

Devon Womack led the way with 128 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. Teammate Lucah Strickland gained 90 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries for Rivercrest (7-0, 2-0).

Tiger running back LaDavian Johnson had 178 rushing yards and two touchdowns, both game highs, on 21 carries. His stats were largely aided by an impressive 92-yard touchdown gallop in the second quarter that gave the Tigers (5-2, 0-2) a 21-6 lead. However, no other Linden-Kildare rusher went over 10 carries, though Je’Kevian Rose gained 49 yards and scored a touchdown on three carries.

Marty Johnson completed 3-of-10 for 47 for Linden-Kildare. Strickland completed 6-of-11 for 113, one touchdown, and one interception. Womack completed a pass for 13 yards.

The Rebels doubled their first downs 24 to the Tigers’ 12. Rivercrest also converted 9-of-13 on third down compared to Linden-Kildare’s 3-for-10.

Linden-Kildare returns to action next Friday when they travel to Simms to take on James Bowie.
