ARLINGTON, Texas — The Texas Rangers have signed outfielder Drew Stubbs to a minor league deal and assigned him to the Round Rock Express, the club’s Triple-A affiliate.
The Atlanta High School alumnus is expected to be active tonight for the Express’ contest at Reno. It will be his fourth separate tour of duty with the Rangers club since 2015. He has seen action at the major league level with the club in the past two seasons.
The 32-year-old was in spring training with the Minnesota Twins as a non-roster invitee to big league camp before being released on March 26 and signing a minors deal with the San Francisco Giants on April 6. He batted .256 (10-39) in 10 games with Triple-A Sacramento and had his contract purchased by the Giants on April 24.
Stubbs hit .091 (2-of-22) in 10 games with San Francisco, but was designated for assignment on May 6 and assigned outright to Sacramento on May 8 before electing free agency on May 10.
