Rangers drop another as Indians prevail 4-3

ARLINGTON, Tx. — The Cleveland Indians staved off a Texas Rangers rally in the ninth inning and held on to beat the defending AL West champions 4-3 at Globe Life Park in Arlington Tuesday.

The bulwark of Cleveland’s lead came off of a Carlos Santana solo shot in the first inning. The Indians followed it up with an RBI single from Austin Jackson that drove Brandon Guyer home. The Indians finished off their second inning scoring with an RBI single from Santana that drove Yan Gomes home and build a 3-0 lead.

The Rangers chipped into the Cleveland lead with a two-run homer from third baseman Joey Gallo that also sent Ryan Rua home.

The Indians clung to a 3-2 lead until the top of the ninth when Michael Brantley hit an RBI single to drive Jackson home and establish a 4-2 lead. The Rangers chiseled away at the Indians’ lead when Mike Napoli hit an RBI double to drive Nomar Mazara home and give the Rangers hope at 4-3.

Cleveland reliever Cody Allen struck out Rougned Odor, Jurickson Profar, and Gallo in succession to end the game.

The Rangers fall to 0-2 on the season as the Indians improve to 2-0. This is the first time since 2007 the Rangers have opened up the year 0-2.

The rubber match will be at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday night on Fox Sports Radio 1400 with pregame at 6:30 and Eric Nadel and Matt Hicks on the call.
