Queen City girls win school’s first district title

QUEEN CITY, Tx. — The Queen City Lady Bulldogs (18-6; 11-0) won the school’s first ever district championship in a 63-55 win over the New Boston Lady Lions (16-13; 9-2) Friday night at Eugene Sloan Gymnasium.

In a very physical and a back and forth game, the Lady Bulldogs took over in the middle of the final period with a huge 3-pointer from about 27 feet from an unlikely source, Tierra Johnson.  Tierra Johnson mainly a role player averaging five points a game, had a big game offensively with 14 points, six rebounds and one steal.

Coach Janice McMillan ( Coach J-Mac) said the Lady Bulldogs had been battling a stomach virus all week, and it showed, the Lady Bulldogs were sluggish in the first half but give credit to Coach Wade and the Lady Lions.  Coach Wade used her entire bench with quick substitutions to wear down the Bulldogs, but the Lady Bulldogs were resilient, with some key timeouts by Coach J-Mac.

Both teams will represent the district in the playoffs very well.
