PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg Pirates rolled over the Atlanta Rabbits 43-19 Friday night at Pirates Stadium.
Pittsburg tallied 311 yards on 53 carries and posted 22 first downs as part of a 24-point victory. The contest only saw one punt, a 40-yarder, between the two teams as the Rabbs sought to keep pace with Pittsburg’s total offense 378 to 329.
The Rabbs (3-3, 0-1) lived and died with the pass as they completed 17-of-28 for 170 yards and two interceptions. Pittsburg (4-2, 0-1) nearly crested 70 total yards passing as they completed 3-for-8 for 67 yards.
Atlanta lost the penalty battle as they had six penalties for 80 yards compared to the Pirates’ three infractions for 25 yards.
The Rushing Pest Control Player of the Game was Joshua Edwards while Gerrod Oliver earned the Red River Lumber Defensive Player of the Game honor.
The Rabbs return to action next Friday with a trip up Loop 59 to Texarkana for a showdown with the undefeated Pleasant Grove Hawks (7-0, 1-0) who earned a tough road victory at Gilmer Friday night. Bubba Kirkland and Rick Blackwood on KPYN 900 AM/95.5 FM. Michael DelGiorno will talk to head coach Matt McClure on the “Coaches Show” Monday at the Rabbit Patch.
