The newly formed Atlanta Animal League provides help for the homeless animals in our community! In the past two months they’ve placed approximately 30 animals that would have been euthanized from the cities of Atlanta and Queen City. The Atlanta Animal League is currently holding a leash and collar drive for our organization. Donated leashes and collars will help keep costs down, as every dog adopted out has to have a collar to attach their rabies tags to. Please drop off leashes and collars at Superior Realty in downtown Atlanta; New and slightly used collars or leashes will be accepted.

Attention residents of Marietta. You may have recently received the 2013 Texas Rural Survey in the mail. The Center for Rural Studies at Sam Houston State University is sending out this official survey of rural Texas and your participation is extremely important. Marietta was one of only 22 rural communities in the state of Texas selected to participate. And if you received the survey in Marietta, you were one of only 100. The survey includes questions on rural living, community and economic development, health and medical care, disaster preparedness, agriculture, and other topics. The results of the Texas Rural Survey will be used to write a series of reports to be shared with local community stakeholders, state legislators, local government officials, university scientists, industry leaders, news media, and the general public. What we learn from the survey will be information for both local and state programs and policies. Please complete and return the survey to us as soon as possible. Your participation is needed to provide the most complete picture of the social and economic conditions in rural Texas and to understand how recent transformations have affected the citizens and communities in rural Texas. Thank you for your time and effort.

Volunteers Make the Difference for Texas Children in Foster Care
When a child enters the foster care system because his or her home is no longer safe because of abuse or neglect, a judge may appoint a committed volunteer, called a CASA or Court Appointed Special Advocate™. CASA volunteers research case records and speak to everyone in a child’s life, including their family members, teachers, doctors, lawyers, social workers and others. The volunteer’s independent evaluations and advocacy help judges make the best decisions needed to help keep the child safe. Texas CASA needs volunteers from all over the state. Volunteers can come from all walks of life. Substantial training is provided and volunteers are never expected to place themselves in dangerous situations. CASA volunteers offer children a consistent, helping hand to guide them through the foster care system to safe, permanent homes.
