Week 1 Thursday August 25th, 2011

A crowd of around 4, 400 were in attendance for the Atlanta Rabbits first game of the 2011 season and the first game for the Rabbits under their new head coach Matt McClure. The 9th ranked Gilmer Buckeye’s defeated the Rabbits 42-21 but Atlanta, a 28 point underdog outscored Gilmer in the second half 21-20, leaving Rabb fans optimistic about the teams future.
Atlanta was led offensively by running back Corion Webster who rushed for 202 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries. Rabbits quarterback Lee Raley passed for 99 yards with an interception and rushed for a touchdown as Atlanta compiled 383 yards in total offence.
Defensively, Rabbits linebacker Jacob Neshyba had a sack.

The Gilmer defense forced two Rabbits turnovers and their quarterback Luke Turner who’s committed to play for Rice was as advertised. Turner rushed for 111 yards and 3 touchdowns and passed for 224 yards and two touchdowns.
After the game, Rabbits head coach Matt McClure commented on his team’s performance.

“I told the kids, we are not going to be satisfied losing, but we fumbled going into the locker room at half, we didn’t score late in the half when we were deep in their territory but we didn’t give up the big play and we made them drive it,” Coach McClure said.
