LIDEN — The Honey Grove Warriors upset the Linden-Kildare Tigers 27-18 Friday night at Jack Hetherington Tiger Stadium.
Honey Grove ran all over Linden-Kildare 263 yards to 137. Trei Pruitt led the way with a game-high 134 yards on 26 carries while his teammate Jake Caffee scored three rushing touchdowns and tallied 121 yards on 15 carries.
The Tigers rushing attack sought to keep pace at least through carries with 38 to 46. LaDavian Johnson scored a touchdown and gained 94 yards on 17 carries. Quarterback Marty Johnson rushed 14 times for 47 yards. Johnson also completed 10-of-28 for 128 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception, outpacing his counterpart Ben Patrick for Honey Grove, who finished with 1-for-2 for 14 yards.
Linden-Kildare led 12-8 after the first quarter and trailed 19-18 at halftime. After the Warriors went ahead 27-18 in the third quarter with a 1-yard Coffee rush and subsequent Coffee 2-point conversion, the Tigers were unable to chip into Honey Grove’s lead to take back the game and leave with a victory.
The loss drops Linden-Kildare to 5-1 with an 0-1 mark in district play. The Warriors improve their record to 4-2 with a 1-0 mark in district play.
