The Hawks continue postseason play Friday at Allen ISD against District 6-4A Division II rival Gilmer. Pleasant Grove beat the Buckeyes earlier this season in a rainstorm, 14-0. The winner advances to play Lorena or Pittsburg, another district rival.

L-E’s Isaiah Cross sparked rally

Even in a losing affair Liberty-Eylau senior quarterback Isaiah Cross made his final schoolboy performance a memorable one. That effort earns him the ESPN Texarkana/Dewey Moore Ford Player of the Week award.

Liberty-Eylau senior Isaiah Cross passed for 239 yards and 2 TDs, and ran for 97 yards and a score.

Cross sparked a Leopard rally from a 37-13 deficit, only to see an opportunity to tie the score in the final minutes fall short. Cross completed 15 of 29 passes for 239 yards and 2 touchdowns, while running for another 97 yards, including a 14-yard TD run in the final seconds of the third quarter.

L-E overcame several season-ending injuries to reach the second round of the playoffs. The Leopards also saw their 12-year slump against Gilmer end.

There’s no denying Samples is red-hot

Andrew Samples has earned his fourth, and back-to-back KPYN/Dewey Moore Ford Player of the Week honors with a spectacular effort last Friday in Tyler against Kemp.

Samples completed 6 of 8 passes for 196 yards and three touchdowns. He also caught a touchdown pass from wide receiver Kade Wood in the Rabbs’ 42-21 victory.

Atlanta (7-5) advances to the Region II-3A Division I semifinals, where it will play Mount Vernon (8-3) Friday night at Pine Tree’s Pirate Stadium in Longview. The winner advances to play Gladewater (11-1) or Malakoff (9-2).
