The first district win is out there for the Queen City Bulldogs and Ore City Rebels when they meet up Friday night. One of the two sides, each with a 0-4 record in District 11 3-A Division II, will crack the goose egg in the district win column once the scoreboard clock reads 0:00 at Smith-Wall Stadium.
Queen City, under first-year head coach Mike Baysinger, is still in search of their first win of the season, let alone in district play. The closest they came to a win was in the first week when they lost to Harleton 16-8. In the last two district games, they have been outscored 158 to 34, including shutouts the past two weeks against Elysian Fields and Daingerfield.
Ore City has two wins on the season, having defeated Maud 30-13 in the first week and later Frankston with a 21-6 win. However, they too have run into the cream of the district with Elysian Fields beating them 50-20 at home and Daingerfield blowing them out of the stadium 78-19. The Rebels are coming off of a home loss to New Diana with a 41-22 loss.
Whichever team gets the win will have a modicum of success to point to as they build for the future. Coach Baysinger and the Bulldogs need it desperately, and they have a good shot at snatching that victory with the game at home. The Rebels are 0-3 on the road this season.
