ATLANTA TEXAS — Rabbits and Wildcats are set to battle in an important 14-4A baseball match up with both teams tied for 3rd in district at 3-4.
Both teams are coming off a loss. Atlanta lost a close one with North Lamar 9-8 and PG shut out Paris 11-0. With just three district games left today’s game will be key to finish in the top four to qualify for playoffs.
Atlanta traveled to Paris back on March 31st looking for their first district win. They succeeded with a six inning outing by Jose Arredondo who had 17 first pitch strikes.
The Rabbs faced Phil Sikes, the pitcher leading 4A in most strike outs. Sikes is the best in the state averaging 2 strike outs per inning going into game March 31st. Currently Sikes has 93 Ks on the year.
Tonight is senior night for Atlanta Rabbit’s Baseball. Coach Hooten talked about his seniors this year saying “We have really enjoyed this group this year they are good leaders who lead by example”. Atlanta has nine seniors this year: 2B Brock Childress, 1B Davis Flint, 2B/P/C Jose Arredondo, SS Layton Henson, P Grant Harrell, OF Grantland Utley, CF Nick Hale, 1B/P/DH BJ Hammonds and LF Christian Oliver.
Tonight’s pitching matchup is up in the air on Paris’ end “ we’ve been going day by day with both (Sikes/Norris) we feel both are available” said Paris Head Coach Bill Sikes. Atlanta will go with Jake Thompson “(Jake) is a low to mid 80’s guy”. Hooten continued “ the young man has a rubber arm I think some of its natural, but I think a lot of it comes from his work ethic”
