The Atlanta Rabbits squeaked by Tatum in a thriller Friday night in Tatum. They returned home with a thrilling 34-28 victory.
In a first half that saw Tatum roll up 213 total yards behind Cedric White’s 13 carries for 206 running yards, both teams played even ball until Tatum took a 21-14 lead with only 43 seconds left in the half.

White scored all 3 Eagle TD’s in the half scoring from 65 yards out to give the Eagles a 7-0 lead with 4:50 remaining in the first quarter with Ismael Vazquez adding the extra point.

The Rabbits took the ensuing kick off and marched down the field with Jawan King scoring from 5 yards out with 1:54 and Fernando Campos tacking on the PAT to tie the score at 7-7.

With 6:35 left in the half White found the end zone again, this time from 10 yards out. Vazquez kick made the score Eagles 14 Rabbits 7.

The Rabbits once again battled back with Dra Nelson powering the ball into the end zone from 3 yards out with 1:02 remaining in the half and Campos kick knotted the score at 14-14.

White saw to it the game would not go to halftime tied as he took a hand off straight up the middle clearing the defensive line, then turning on the speed to out run the Rabbit defense with 43 ticks left on the clock. Vazquez PAT gave the Eagles a 21-14 lead at the half.

The Eagles wasted no time after receiving the second half kick. QB Obadiah Jones hit WR Jamaurie Wilson with a 75 yard touchdown pass and after another successful Vazquez kick the Eagles led the RABBS 28-14 with 11:01 remaining in the third quarter.

At this point, the Rabbits could have rolled it up and mailed it in but instead they got up off the carpet of Eagle Stadium and went to work.

With 7:22 left in the third quarter King added his second 5 yard touchdown run and with Campos kick brought the Rabbits within 7 at Eagles 28 Rabbits 21..

At this point the Rabbit Defense decided it was time to get with it and shut the Eagles down..  shortly after a big defensive stand the Rabbits offense went on a 13 play 51 yard drive with QB Andrew Samples plowing in from 2 yards out, Campos added the PAT to knot the score at 28 and set up a dramatic finish.

The Eagles took the kick off and mounted a march downfield. The Rabbit defense stiffened as the Eagle offense crossed into the Rabbit end of the field eventually stuffing White on a 4th and 2 play turning the ball back over to Samples and company with 3:40 remaining in the game. After a 1 yard gain by Nelson, Samples dropped back and hit Austin Brown at the Eagle 40. Brown made a move between 2 Eagle defenders and turned on the jets, racing toward the end zone leaving Eagle defenders in his wake. Brown was attacked by the old turf monster about the 10 yard line but was able to regain his balance and get in the end zone with 3:02 remaining in the game. The 2 point conversion try failed but the Rabbits had taken their first lead of the night 34-28.

After the Rabbits kicked off to the Eagles could not mount any kind of attack turning the ball over on downs at their own 20 with a little over a minute left to play. Rabbit Soph. Connor Samples (who was incorrectly identified as Charlie Powell) trapped White behind the line of scrimmage setting up a 4th and long. A pass attempt from Jones flew over the head of his intended receiver and the RABBS took over on downs.

With the Eagles out of time outs the RABBS came out and took a knee 3 straight plays to run out the clock and bring the victory home.

Austin Brown named player of the game

Austin Brown was selected as the Rushing Pest Control Player Of The Game for his catch and run that gave the Rabbits the margin of Victory.

Connor Samples was picked as the Red River Lumber Defensive Player Of The Game for his tackle behind the line of scrimmage helping secure the win.
