Pleasant Grove made it look easy last Thursday against Dallas Roosevelt, and junior running back Bruce Garrett was a big part of it.
Garrett is the Fox Sports Texarkana/Dewey Moore Ford Player of the Week after running for 163 yards on 13 carries in the Hawks’ 56-12 win over the outmanned Roosevelt Mustangs.
“It was a special game for Garrett, he was really running hard in that game,” said Pleasant Grove coach Josh Gibson. “He broke three arms tackles, and barely got tripped up or he might have gone 92 yards on the first play of the game.”
Garrett gained 52 yards on that first play, and now has 1,104 yards and 11 rushing touchdowns on the season. He hasn’t had a lot of opportunities to catch the ball, but has two receptions for 62 yards and a TD.
L-E’s Riles wins second straight award
Liberty-Eylau linebacker/running back Marzavin Riles is the ESPN Texarkana/Dewey Moore Ford Player of the Week after another sensational effort in the Leopards’ 47-17 victory over Caddo Mills.
Riles has doubled his rushing totals the past two weeks, finishing with 107 yards and three touchdowns against the Foxes. He also played most of the game on defense, and now has 100 tackles for the season. His offensive totals read 63 carries for 502 yards and eight TDs. Riles is averaging a phenomenal 38.9 yards a reception with nine catches and four TDs.
Atlanta marches on behind Andrew Samples
Andrew Samples three four touchdown passes, two in the fourth quarter last week in leading the Rabbits past New London West Rusk, 28-20. That performance earns Samples the KPYN/Dewey Moore Ford Player of the Week honor for the third time this season.
The Rabbs trailed 20-0 in the second quarter when Samples ignited the comeback with a 65-yard touchdown pass to Ferron Hall. Senior Jawan King caught Samples’ next two scoring passes, and Kade Wood hauled in the decisive touchdown pass in the final minutes of the game.
