Atlanta man dies in Texarkana shooting Saturday night

TEXARKANA — An Atlanta man has died after sustaining gunshot wounds Saturday night following an altercation at a car wash on North Stateline Avenue in Texarkana.

According to the Texarkana Texas Police Department, 25-year-old Tilford Barfiled III was shot to death as a bystander to a fight that occurred Saturday evening at Bay Wash in the 4200 block of North Stateline.

At 10:10 p.m., TTPD dispatched officers to the 4200 block of North Stateline at Bin regards to a shooting victim who was non-responsive. Officers arrived and found Barfield riddled with gunshot wounds to his abdomen and legs. LifeNet EMS transported Barfield to Christus St. Michael where he was pronounced dead.

According to witnesses, an altercation broke out at Bay Wash, and the participants in the fight are not known at this time. However, as Barfield observed, he was shot several times. Suspects Lee Lewis, Jr. and Jimmy Jerome Dancer fled the scene in a red 1990’s Chevy Tahoe prior to the officers’ arrival.

At 4:00 a.m. Sunday morning, Texarkana Texas Police arrested Lewis for murder at his residence on Magnolia Street in Texarkana. He was transported to the Bi-State Jail and booked for murder after an interview with detectives.

A second man, Jimmy Jerome Dancer, is also a suspect, according to police. The TTPD has put out an arrest warrant for murder, but have yet to apprehend Dance, who they believe to be armed and driving a red Chevy Tahoe.
