Pittsburg — Andy Samples’ solo home run was the lone run for Atlanta in 3-1 loss at Pittsburg.
Jose Arredondo and Brett McGee were locked in a pitchers duel until the 5th when Arredondo was chased. Pittsburg led off the 5th with a pop out to right field, followed by a single and double to tie the game. Sacrifice bunt from Dalton Warrick gave PITT a 2-1 lead heading into 6th inning.
Atlanta was set up for more two out drama as Jake Thompson and Kade Wood got back to back hits in the 7th. Layton Henson stepped up with Thompson on third and Wood on second. Henson barely got a piece of the first pitch and hit a soft pop up to 3rd baseman Jace Wood to end it.
Andy Samples’ solo home run came in the 2nd inning on the first pitch he saw. It was a line drive over the left field wall, his first of the season.
Atlanta got out of multiple jams with runners in scoring position. Layton Henson turned an unassisted double play to end the 4th where PITT had runners at the corners. Earlier in the 2nd Samples caught a pop out with runners at 2nd and 3rd to end the inning.
